This training is designed for mental health, social service, and legal professionals who work with immigrant families navigating. Trauma-informed interviewing is a critical skill when assisting clients who have experienced displacement, violence, or other traumatic events. This workshop introduces the core principles of trauma-informed care, explores the connection between trauma and migration, and offers practical strategies for conducting interviews that are compassionate and effective.

Participants will gain tools to recognize and respond to trauma-related behaviors, protect their own well-being, and build trust with vulnerable clients.
Objectives:

  1. Define trauma, trauma responses, and secondary/vicarious trauma;
  2. Discuss the link between trauma and migration; and
  3. Review trauma-informed interviewing with considerations for both in-person and virtual settings.

Audience: Mental health, legal ,and social service professionals working with immigrants.
