The Great Gingerbread Workshop!
Overview
Get into the festive spirit with instructors from the Portsmouth Historical Society at "The Great Gingerbread Get-Together!" This hands-on workshop is perfect for all ages and skill levels, inviting you to unleash your inner architect and confectioner. Bring your own gingerbread pieces, and we'll provide an abundance of colorful candies, delectable icing, and expert guidance to help you construct and decorate your very own edible masterpiece. Or, purchase a kit with your registration, and assemble everything with us! At the end of the workshop, you can take your gingerbread house home as a lovely holiday decoration, or leave it with us and enter it into the 35th Annual Gingerbread House Exhibition and Contest!
Learning Objectives
Construct a structurally sound gingerbread house: Participants will learn basic assembly techniques to build a stable gingerbread house.
Decorate with various confectionery elements: Participants will gain experience using different candies, icings, and techniques to adorn their gingerbread houses creatively.
Develop fine motor skills and creativity: The hands-on decorating process will enhance dexterity and encourage imaginative design.
Foster a sense of accomplishment and festive cheer: Participants will experience the joy of creating a holiday-themed edible art piece.
Bringing your own gingerbread - $10 for members (both PCMS or Portsmouth Historical Society), $15 for non-members
Buying a kit - $35 for members (both PCMS or Portsmouth Historical Society), $40 for non-members
Instructor: Sarah Robbitts-Terry
Instructor bio: Sarah Robbitts-Terry is the Director of Community Engagement at the Portsmouth Historical Society and one of their resident gingerbread experts. She's also the leader of the Gingerbread Repair Crew that watches over the gingerbread houses in the Historical Society's annual gingerbread house competition. She has all kinds of tips and tricks for your gingerbread houses - whether it's the best recipe for royal icing, or which candies are the most structurally sound!
This class needs a minimum of 6 attendees to run
Open to all ages (under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian)
Attendees can receive refunds up to 7 days before the event's start date
