Strange Escapes Presents, “Seeking Spirits at the Queen Mary" Long Beach, CA January 23-January 26th, 2026
Featuring Amy Bruni, Adam Berry, John Tenney, Richard Estep, Sarah Lemos and more very exciting guests to be announced.
Welcome aboard the historic, (and extremely haunted), Queen Mary. Residing in Long Beach Harbor, the RMS Queen Mary is a colossal ship that was bigger, faster and more powerful than the Titanic. Commissioned in 1930, she made her maiden voyage in 1936. For three years she traveled back and forth across the Atlantic and carried the worlds rich and elite.
When World War II broke out in 1939, she quickly served a different purpose. She was put into service as a troopship and was known as “The Grey Ghost.” By the end of World War II she had carried more than 800,000 troops, been involved in a collision at sea and participated in the D-Day invasion.
At the close of the war, the ship was used to transfer war brides and their children to the United States and Canada. Following this service, she was refurbished and put back to luxury cruise service in 1947.
By the 1960’s transatlantic crossings were falling out of favor due to the new affordability and access to air travel. The Queen Mary voyaged to a few tropical locales, but having no central air or outdoor pools, she was not quite suited to that job.
In 1967 she was sold to Long Beach and permanently docked in the city to serve as a museum and luxury hotel.
With 49 documented deaths aboard the ship, ghost stories have long circulated around the majestic vessel. From spirits seen in the passenger quarters, to the well known stories of a little girl in the no longer used pool room, and the ghostly workers still seen manning their stations in the long defunct engine room. It’s a reputation the Queen Mary can’t and doesn’t ignore.
Strange Escapes welcomes you onboard as we embark on a long weekend of mixers, parties, psychic readings, lectures, entertainment and of course: ghosts.
