Local industries are each hosting a challenge, where you can compete to make the best solution. These are based in each company's expertise, and are meant as an inspiration and foundation for your projects here @ Sonderborg Smart Zero Hack.

If you have an interest in sustainability, data, smart cities, open data, climate, future issues and much more, then this is the right hackathon for you. You and your teammates gets to search and find solutions that can help the new tomorrow and keep our future intact with innovative thinking.

We welcome startup teams, and individuals. You don’t need to be an expert within smart city or related. The outside perspectives you bring might be the the game-changing ideas that will make all the difference!

You will have 3 days to work on, and present, your solution to a panel of industry leaders, who will judge and award the best ideas. Throughout the event, facilitators and case experts will help you identify and refine your ideas.

FAQ

I cannot code. Can I attend anyway?

Sure, you should definitely attend! You might think that a hackathon is for programmers only, but that’s not true. Technology and code is one thing – creative minds, bright insights and strategic eyes are another. So, as long as you are a student above 18 years old, you are more than welcome – no matter what school or study program you attend. Actually, we believe that the more different people we are, the better.

Seriously, is it free?!

Yes, we’re not kidding you. Thanks to our sponsors we will provide free food, swag, snacks, drinks and a place for you to sleep at the hackathon. Plus, there will be mentors, workshops and judges only for the sake of YOU.

What can I win?

You have the fantastic opportunity to learn new stuff, try out your skills and make new friends. Isn't that just great? Everyone will be a winner!... OKAY, we will also have some awesome prizes.

What if I don’t know much about the case industry?

No problem. There will be a number of experts on site to help you understand some of the issues facing the industry today and allow you to bounce ideas off them.

What kind of solution do I have to come up with?

Anything you want! We have deliberately kept the brief broad to try and allow participants to come with ideas that are as disruptive and innovative as possible.

What's in it for me as a student?

You will get FIRST HAND experience with real life problem solving and innovative processes, new hard and soft skills, a diploma you can attach to your resumé, employability skills, networking with business people who know a thing or two, win a huge prize sum and SO much more. You wouldn’t wanna miss this!

Do I need to have a team?

No. You are welcome to make a team before the hackathon, but loads of people come without a team. We will help everyone find a team. We recommend groups of 4-5 persons.

How can I apply?

Sign-ups are now open. Just press the green button to get started. Remember, faster sometimes is better.

If I register, am I guaranteed entry?

No, only 10 teams will be able to participate in the Hackathon. Once you have registered, we know you are intereested. You will receive a seperate e-mail to confirm your participation.

Will you offer travel reimbursements?

We will unfortunately not provide travel reimbursement.

What do I need to bring?

Laptop, cellphone and chargers as well as a sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries, clothes and a well-rested and open mind. If you want to hack on hardware, you might need to bring it yourself. What you won't need to bring is a pre-determined team, an idea for a hack, nor food and drinks. Also, just bring a motivated and innovative spirit that’s ready to go crazy.

Do I have to bring my own equipment?

Yes. We will provide power sockets and Wi-Fi.

When is it?

Sonderborg Smart Zero Hackathon will start at 17.00 friday the 8th November and end on sunday at 15.00. All work eligible for prizes must be worked on and completed during this period of time and can't be prepared from home. Throughout the hackathon inspiring events, talks and mentoring sessions will be hosted. For a more detailed schedule see below.

Can I sleep at the venue?

There will be rooms to sleep in. You will have to bring your own bedroll, sleeping bag and pillows though. It's not mandatory to sleep at the Hackathon but we recommend it because many participators will likely use time during the night to ideate and hack. It’s really up to you.

How do I get there?

It is only a short walk from Sonderborg bus station and railway station. Unfortunately we can’t provide transportation, but we encourage participants from the same schools to coordinate transportation if arriving by car.

The address is:

Alsion 2 | 6400 Sønderborg

Will there be parking available?

The streets around the venue should provide suitable parking for all participants. Additionally there is a parking lot near the venue.

What do I need to do beforehand?

No preparation, just look forward to an awesome two days!
