SheJumps x Cassidy Randall | Thirty Below Book Reading | Online
Overview
About the event:
SheJumps is proud to host critically-acclaimed author and SheJumps Alpine Finishing School alum Cassidy Randall for a memorable reading and discussion about the first all-women’s ascent of Denali. Randall’s survival epic, Thirty Below tells the gripping, true survival story of this climb in 1970—which was actually the first all-female ascent of any of the world's high peaks.
By 1970, we had sent men to the moon, and women still hadn’t stood on the highest points on Earth. Popular belief held that they were incapable of withstanding high altitudes, savage elements, and carrying heavy loads. Which made the defiant idea of one climber, Alaskan mountaineer and doctor Grace Hoeman, all the more audacious.
Everyone told Grace and her six-woman team that it couldn’t be done. Then, when disaster struck at the worst time on their expedition, the team’s actions would decide not only their fate, but how the world would judge them—and all women’s ability to climb and survive the fiercest mountains.
Event Details:
During the webinar, Randall will read from her epic book as well as talk about writing Grace Hoeman’s story. She will touch on the male-dominated sphere of mountaineering, why we’ve never heard of this incredible first ascent. She will also explore the power of writing one of the first mainstream exploration/adventure books to center women’s stories—and be written by a woman.
The evening will conclude with an audience Q&A.
This event is online and audience members do not need to read the book before the event to enjoy the author talk. This is a great community building event for your next book group, adventure pals, family and friends.
