What is QPR?

The QPR Institute's mission is to save lives and reduce suicidal behaviors by providing innovative, practical, and proven suicide prevention training.

What is a QPR Gatekeeper?

A gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide.

QPR Gatekeepers can be anyone, including biological/foster/adoptive/kinship parents, caregivers, teachers, ministers, youth, doctors, first responders, mental health professionals, and YOU!

As a certified QPR Gatekeeper, you will learn to:

  • Recognize the warning signs of suicide
  • Increase awareness of stigma and understand suicide as a public health issue
  • Know how to offer hope
  • Know how to access local and national referral resources
  • Know how to get help and save a life

Course Includes: 2 hours of virtual training; Certificate of Completion; No CEUs available for professional licensure.

Course Provider: This course is offered through Bloom University, which provides trauma-informed training for foster parents, biological and adoptive parents, caregivers, human service professionals, teachers, and other professionals or volunteers who work with children. Our training opportunities are designed to reflect best practices and standards of care for individuals working with children. Bloom University is a training program within Bloom Our Youth, a nonprofit organization that serves children and families impacted by foster care.

Course Instructor: Bloom University is led by Director Katie New, EdD, LMSW, RN. Dr. New oversees the implementation of trauma-informed care models and facilitates training for foster parents, professionals, and community members. She holds a Doctorate in Education, Leadership, and Learning from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Social Work with a focus on Children, Adolescents, and Families from the University of Alabama. Katie has a deep passion for serving young people who have experienced trauma and has spent the last 20 years devoted to improving the lives of vulnerable children through her work.
