Product Discovery Workshop 2026
Overview
If you strip away all the frameworks, buzzwords, and "best practices," the core intention of Product Discovery is about the data-informed reduction of uncertainty regarding problems worth solving and solutions worth building through a series of nonlinear activities conducted as a cross-functional team.
That’s why this training focuses on helping you understand individual Discovery context and when to apply what technique to make progress, over just introducing new canvases or frameworks.
This workshop can be combined with two consecutive workshops on Product Strategy and Product OKRs taking place over the previous two days. Check the ticket options for bundle pricing options.
Most product teams confuse completing research activities with reducing uncertainty. They chase the "perfect" framework and diligently follow every step of prescribed methods, but their discovery becomes endless exploration that doesn't connect to strategic priorities or provide decision-grade insights.
Real Progress in product discovery happens when you use evidence to reduce uncertainty about what problems are worth solving and what solutions are worth delivering—not just gather interesting customer feedback.
Learning Goals
- Focus discovery efforts on strategically relevant problems using impact mapping to connect customer insights to business goals
- Distinguish between weak signals and strong evidence to make decisions based on reliable insights, not anecdotal feedback
- Articulate research intent to choose and combine the proper research techniques for your problem with a short lead time to insight.
- How to plan, execute, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative research to generate reliable problem understanding
- Using Impact Mapping to connect insights, solutions, and experiments to overarching business goals.
- Strengthen evidence in both problem and solution spaces by moving from assumptions to validated insights
Concepts Covered
Real Progress vs. Alibi Progress in Discovery
- Why most discovery becomes research theater instead of uncertainty reduction
- The difference between completing activities and gathering decision-grade evidence
- How to recognize when you're optimizing for process correctness over practical learning
The Two Discovery Attributes
- Targeted: Focus on problems that matter for strategic business goals, not every interesting customer issue
- Evidence-informed: Move from weak signals to strong evidence that can guide product decisions
Impact Mapping for Targeted Discovery
- Using Impact, Actors, Outcomes, Outputs, and Experiments to connect customer problems to business goals
- Quality checks for each level to ensure discovery stays focused on strategic priorities
- Adapting the approach whether you start from problems, solutions, or strategic mandates
Evidence Strength Assessment
- Evaluating insights across "real vs. anecdotal" and "relevant vs. lip service" dimensions
- Matching research questions to appropriate methods for stronger evidence
- Strengthening evidence in problem space (understanding what's worth solving) and solution space (validating what's worth building)
Practical Implementation
- Techniques for choosing methods based on what you need to learn, not what process you should follow
- Approaches for balancing discovery investment with decision timelines
- Methods for connecting discovery insights to strategy and OKRs
