Virginia Secretary of Technology Karen Jackson and the region’s economic and educational leaders join forces to secure Southwest Virginia’s place in the “new economy” in this one-day summit geared towards helping small businesses, college students, young professionals and manufacturers leverage the current and future potential of the cybersecurity and manufacturing industries in Southwest Virginia.

Karen Jackson will headline the event with two separate addresses geared toward cybersecurity and manufacturing while subject-matter experts share their thoughts on local economic progress. The day will include consulting sessions for small businesses, professional development-based workshops and networking opportunities for manufacturers and suppliers.

B) DFARS - Are you compliant? - On December 30, 2015, the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) published a three-page interim rule to the Defense Acquisition Federal Regulation Supplement (DFARS) that gives government contractors a deadline of December 31, 2017 to implement the requirements of the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Special Publication (SP) 800-171.

It seeks to increase the number of fully prepared students entering the cybersecurity workforce in operations, development and research and provides an extensive Courseware Repository for educators and a cloud-hosted Exercise Environment for hands-on cybersecurity labs and exercises for students.
