About this event

  • Event lasts 2 days 18 hours

This in-person Midwifery Suturing Camp combines focused learning with good food and lots of discussion in a stellar setting on the rocky coast of Maine.

ACNM specialty credit available: ACNM Program #2024-00EA.

The Midwife Suturing Camp sessions build on each other and provide time for learning, skill refinement, connecting with other participants, and time for rest and reflection. Session content is designed to expand each participant’s suturing skills, explore new ways (and whys!) of assessment after birth and performing repairs, and discuss the clinical challenges of repairs encountered in practice. The schedule allows participants to build their technical and creative skills for assessing and approximating tissues.

To ensure everyone gets individualized mentoring, workshops are limited to 7 participants. The core workshop runs from 9 am-5 pm on Monday & Tuesday .

Midwives may stay on site or commute from the nearby Boothbay Harbor Region. All participants are welcomed Monday evening for a casual get together. Accommodations with On-Site Tickets are provided in a lovely rustic summer home. There are two private rooms and two double rooms all with shared bath. Rooms are reserved exclusively for Retreat Participants. Departure is Wednesday morning (3-nights).

NEW FOR 2025! For those who want hands-one experience teaching suturing and perineal repair skills, participants who have attended the Teaching Suturing and Perineal Repair Workshop have the opportunity for a discounted ticket to a Midwife Camp to participate in workshop prep and teaching. This is a great opportunity to hone your teaching and workshop organizational skills. Reach out to Nell for more information. We'll have up to two assistant teachers per Midwife Camp. Teachers-in-Training are expected to arrive early to particpate in Camp prep.

Frequently asked questions

What's the closest airport?

Portland, Maine (PWM) is about 1.5 hours away. There are limited ride-share options, so a rental car is helpful. Participants will be put in touch via email before the workshop, to allow for ride coordination.

Is this workshop suitable for students?

We support student learning! This workshop is appropriate for students who have had an introduction to suturing and have begun working on core suturing skills. Due to the expense of hosting this workshop, there are no student discounts available.

What should I know if I'm driving to the Midwife Suturing Camp?

A map with directions will be sent along with other workshop materials about two weeks before the Midwife Suturing Camp. We are in rural Maine and GPS can take the back routes (used by locals but not the best way to go, especially if you get in late!). We encourage you to download and print the map.
