Members, join us for Pottery Workshop Wednesday! In our ongoing series, we will again explore slip- and engobe-based surface decorations for ceramic ware. This week we will demonstrate and work together to create slip-trailed designs on leather-hard greenware. Slip-based decoration on ceramic ware is one of our most ancient traditions, with examples dating back to 2000 BC. Slip trailing involves the application of lines of raised slip to create designs of abstract or literal interpretation. Slip may also be slathered, painted, squirted, and buttered on an object to create expressive movement or as part of a precise decoration. We will provide slip, tools, and examples. You must bring to class 2-3 pieces of work (vessels, trays, sculpture) of your choice that are in the leather hard greenware state. No prior experience with slip decoration is necessary.
