Intro to Inkscape
Overview
Inkscape is a free, open-source vector drawing software designed as an alternative to Adobe Illustrator and CorelDRAW. It allows users to create and edit SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) files, which can then be used with devices like the Cricut Maker or laser cutters to produce custom items. The software is compatible with PC, Mac, and Linux.
In this introductory class, attendees will learn how to install Inkscape and explore its basic tools to create and edit images for use in Cricut Design Space or LightBurn software. Participants are encouraged to bring their personal computers to the class. Space and power are available for desktop computers.
Topics Covered:
- Installing Inkscape on your computer
- Creating images and text using built-in drawing tools
- Importing images and using the trace function
- Refining images using the node editing tool
- Tips and tricks for importing designs into Cricut Design Space and LightBurn
By the end of the class, attendees will have a solid foundation to start creating their own vector designs for crafting and cutting projects.
