Mental health practitioners are often faced with clients experiencing intimate partner violence, and may feel unsure of best practices related to risk assessment, surivor support, and utlization of community resources.

Join Kellyann Kostyal-Larrier, Executive Director of Fearless! Hudson Valley, in a training to support mental health professionals' understanding of IPV dynamics, crisis intervention, risk assessment, and best practices in making appropriate referrals to community resources.

2 CEs available to NYS LMHCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, LMSWs, LCATs, NYS Licensed Psychologists and NYS Licensed Psychoanalysts provided by Hudson Valley Professional Development, LLC upon successful completion of training.

Objectives:

Upon completion of the training, participants will

-gain a comprehensive understanding of Intimate Partner Violence.

-have a greater understanding of the various forms of coercive control, tactics used by abusers, and how to identify risk.

-understand the complexities of IPV within the MH field, including mandatory reporting guidelines.

In accordance with the NY State Department of Education guidelines, in order to receive continuing education contact hours, a participant needs to be present for the duration of the workshop/training. Therefore, participants who arrive late or leave the event early will not be granted a certificate of completion.

Since 2010, Kellyann Kostyal-Larrier has served as the Executive Director of Fearless! Hudson Valley, Inc., formerly known as Safe Homes of Orange County. In this role, she collaborates daily with an exceptional team dedicated to fostering an informed, just, and accountable society, ensuring that all individuals can enjoy supportive and safe relationships devoid of abuse, exploitation, and oppression.The organization achieves this mission through education, prevention, advocacy, and the provision of comprehensive services, including shelter, for victims and survivors of interpersonal violence, human trafficking, sexual violence, and various forms of crime victimization.

Prior to her tenure at Fearless!, Kellyann held the position of Project Coordinator for the Universal Response to Domestic Violence in Dutchess County. She began her professional journey as a Senior Victim Specialist at the District Attorney’s Office in Warren County, NY. Kellyann is deeply committed to social justice and advocates for a society where all relationships are equitable and free from oppression and violence. She actively challenges the ongoing objectification of women and girls, recognizing its detrimental long-term effects on society.

In addition to her advocacy work, Kellyann serves as a general topics instructor at the Orange County Police Academy and acts as an Expert Witness on Domestic Violence across New York State. Her contributions have been acknowledged by the Dutchess County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and she has received several accolades, including the 2016 Director’s Community Leadership Award from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a 2016 Tribute to Women of Achievement honor, and the 2019 Advocate for Justice Honoree award from Legal Services of the Hudson Valley. Kellyann is also a board member of the NYS Coalition Against Domestic Violence and participates in the NYS Citizens Review Panel for Child Protective Services. She resides in Poughkeepsie, NY, with her husband and their three children.
