Description

NASA: 60 Years of Exploration

Join The Harkin Institute on Tuesday, November 1, 2018, at 7 p.m. when we welcome NASA Chief Historian Bill Barry.

Our world has changed dramatically since NASA opened for business on October 1, 1958. Dr. Barry will talk about NASA's impact over the last 60 years, where we'll be going in the decades ahead, and six things many Americans probably don’t know about NASA history.

This lecture comes as NASA celebrates its 60th Anniversary with a series of events commemorating highlights from six decades of space exploration. Dr. Barry joined NASA in 2001 and became its chief historian in September 2010. Prior to that he served 22 years in the U.S. Air Force and served on the faculty of the U.S. Air Force Academy. He has a doctorate from the University of Oxford.

Established by Richard Sussman, AS’51, in memory of his late wife Lila, the Sussman Lecture Series takes place twice a year and invites notable public figures to discuss timely topics.

Past speakers have in the Sussman Lecture Series include Columbia, SC, Mayor Stephen Benjamin; Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kailash Satyarthi; and Julie Stewart, president and founder of the organization Families Against Mandatory Minimums.
