Overview

Frameworks to help clinicians prevent compassion fatigue while maintaining therapeutic presence for clients in toxic relational dynamics.

This training offers clinical frameworks and interventions for therapists working with clients recovering from narcissistic abuse, toxic relational dynamics, and emotionally immature caregivers. The course integrates trauma-informed approaches, attachment-based understanding, and creative arts/somatic techniques to help clinicians prevent compassion fatigue while maintaining therapeutic presence.

2 CEs available to NYS LMHCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, LMSWs, LCATs, NYS Licensed Psychologists and NYS Licensed Psychoanalysts provided by Hudson Valley Professional Development, LLC upon successful completion of training.

Objectives:

Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to

-identify at least three hallmark patterns of narcissistic abuse and toxic relational stress in clients.

-describe how compassion fatigue and over-identification manifest in clinicians treating relational trauma.

-apply two or more trauma-informed interventions to help clients increase emotional regulation and agency.

-utilize somatic and creative arts strategies to support therapeutic boundaries and prevent burnout.

-demonstrate awareness of ethical considerations and countertransference in working with this population.

In accordance with the NY State Department of Education guidelines, in order to receive continuing education contact hours, a participant needs to be present for the duration of the workshop/training. Therefore, participants who arrive late or leave the event early will not be granted a certificate of completion.

Shahla Nikpour, LCSW, R-DMT, is a licensed clinical social worker, dance/movement therapist, and founder of Phoenix Thriving Therapy. A survivor of narcissistic abuse herself, Shahla helps therapists and high-achieving professionals cultivate resilience, boundaries, and embodied compassion in the face of toxic relational stress.

Her integrative approach blends EMDR, somatics, and creative arts therapy to support both clinicians and clients in staying grounded while doing deep trauma work.
