Join me at my Columbia City fiber art studio for a two-part workshop on Clay and Woven Fiber Plant Holders

Series Dates -

SUN FEB 8th from 12-3 pm for Clay, and SUN FEB 22nd from 12-3pm for Weaving

Your ticket covers both workshops in the series, but only shows the first date.

Just book on the date of the first class - but mark your calendar for both.

I’m excited to offer this mixed media project that blends three of my loves - fiber, clay and plants! I’ve worked in Fiber for more than 20 years, but my artistic history is in clay with a BFA and an MFA in ceramics. I love combining both!

This project is a perfect introduction to clay, and fiber arts, but also has plenty of expressive potential for those who already have experience in these mediums.

Clay and Fiber have a natural symbiosis - and you’ll be thrilled with what you can accomplish!

PLEASE READ FAQ BELOW BEFORE BOOKING.

First Workshop:

We’ll be pinch building the bottom of our vessels, and decorating with underglazes in a variety of summer colors. We’ll be working with a buff-colored clay with speckles, when fired to cone 6, becomes almost as if it’s glazed. I’ll have stamps and texture tools to have a wide possibility for the look of your pieces

The ceramic bottom allows you to use it as a ‘drip pan’ for hanging plants. You’ll be able to make 1-2 clay pieces during this workshop

Second Workshop:

You’ll get back your fired pieces, and we will learn to weave a top portion, using a needle, t-shirt fiber, and a wide variety of colored cotton thread and waxed threads. This technique is accessible and forgiving, but makes something that is stunning, allowing you to explore patterns and color.

At the end of the workshop, you’ll get to take home the needle and a variety strings and fibers to complete your plant holder, as well as work on your other pieces, if you made more than one.

You can suspend your pieces with waxed thread or build them with a flat surface to sit on a table.

All tools and supplies are provided: Clay, underglazes, firing, fiber, cords, waxed string, needles and sparkling water and wrapped snacks.

If you have a particular plant in mind, bring measurements so you can make your project to fit!

The Garden Workshops are held in a small urban forest with towering heritage Douglas Fir trees, that create a cool and pleasant shade garden, even in the height of summer. MAY-SEPTEMBER

Workshops are held rain or shine, because there is a covered workshop and a festival tent.

OCTOBER-MAY Workshops are held inside my cozy studio in the trees with a woodfire stove!
