Central Plains: Health in the Built Environment, The WELL Building Standard
Tue, March 28, 2017, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM CDT
Join the USGBC Central Plains and our co-sponsors, M.E. GROUP, ASID (Missouri West/Kansas), and DBIA at this special presentation on the WELL Building Standard, an evidence-based system for measuring, certifying and monitoring the performance of building features that impact health and well-being.
Building owners and designers hear plenty about health and wellness regarding the indoor environment. Sit/stand workstations, open offices, sick building syndrome, and fitness rooms are just a few examples. It can be challenging to separate fads from genuine innovations, and to evaluate the relative merits of investments in wellness. This presentation provides an overview of wellness as it relates to the built environment, building off strong evidence from research. The WELL Building Standard is administered by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) and provdes a framework for organizing strategies to achieve optimum human comfort and outcomes from investments in the built environment, emphasizing physiological and psychological quality.
Our presenters, Marcel Harmon and Stuart Shell, are with Forte Building Science, a division of M.E. GROUP. They will guide us through their experience applying the WELL Building Standard to their projects, share lessons learned, and how their projects are monitoring performance over time.
Cost: $20 for members; $30 for non-members
Drinks & appetizers will be served prior to the presentation. Tickets are not refundable.
Tours of the new Populous office-space will follow the presentation and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
