Building Healing Communities: Conversations on Mental Health, Resilience and Equity

The past year has been difficult. COVID-19 has had profound impacts on mental health for people of all ages. Now is a critical time to reduce stigma around mental health struggles that prevent individuals from seeking help. Nationwide, 40% (1) of adults report symptoms of anxiety and/or depressive disorder during the pandemic. Beyond illness, or loss of loved ones, many young people’s social and emotional well-being have been harmed by the loss of routines. Mental health–related visits for children aged 5–11 and 12–17 years old increased about 24% and 31%, respectively (2). The pandemic’s damage has been even more pronounced among communities of color, who have experienced disproportionately higher rates of COVID-19 cases and deaths (3).

Connecting with others during challenging times is important for Building Healing Communities . DHS’ Child and Family Services Division (CFSD) invites all Arlingtonians to take part in Conversations on Mental Health, Resilience and EquityCommunity members will come together to share stories of resilience, strength, struggle, and support. We will host a free symposium over three (3) days of workshops covering topics such as mental health, race and equity, youth mental health, and paths to healing.

The Symposium and all Workshops will include simultaneous Spanish interpretation.
