About this event
This is an advanced course examining executive functioning difficulties in neurodivergent populations, including autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. A framework that refocuses on the importance of self-regulation based on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs will be outlined, along with the essential precursors to emotional development.
The impact of a skill deficit in the areas of executive functioning will be described through in-depth case studies, indicating how a relationship-based approach addresses language and behaviors. In-depth clinical examples will explain the need for bottom-up developmental therapeutic interventions, as opposed to those that prioritize top-down consequence-based methods.
Supportive strategies will be demonstrated as participants will be encouraged to partake in cooperative problem solving, investigating possible solutions for managing challenging situations.
6 CEs available to NYS LMHCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, LMSWs, LCATs, NYS Licensed Psychologists, and NYS Licensed Psychoanalysts provided by Hudson Valley Professional Development, LLC upon successful completion of training.
*Please note that a lunch break is scheduled from 12-1pm.
Objectives:
Upon completion of the training participants will be able to
-identify the foundational capacities that underlie common struggles of neurodivergent clients, including autism, ADHD, and DLD.
-discuss how relational and play-based therapy address challenges associated with autism, ADHD, and DLD, including social emotional skills, executive functioning, and theory of mind.
-connect brain-based research in trauma-informed education to weaknesses in executive functioning domains.
-analyze the core developmental deficits in neurodivergent populations to determine effective strategies that support foundational growth across environments.
