In-Person Japanese Language Class

The popular Japanese art form known as etegami (e= image; tegami= letter) has captured the interest and imagination of artists all over the world.

Mounting is called hyougu, which means the work of making and repairing kakejiku and furnishings made of paper and wood, such as fusuma and byoubu.

Ikenobō is the oldest and largest school of ikebana, the Japanese art of floral design. It was founded in the 15th century by the Buddhist monk Senno. The school is based at the Rokkaku-dō temple in Kyoto. The name is derived from a pond where Prince Shōt

The Ohara School of Ikebana was founded by Unshin Ohara (1861-1916). Unshin explored the fields and mountains and tried to develop a style of ikebana to express the beauty of natural scenery.

At this paper-making workshop, participants will make traditional Japanese paper, called Wash from the fibers processed by the bark of Kozo (Japanese marybery) tree.

Kintsugi (golden joinery) is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique.
