Safe Gatherings

Stand up for policies that empower event organizers and support safe gatherings

Safe Event Gatherings

Background

We’re committed to event safety, and as live events come back, we are empowering creators with resources to make informed event safety decisions and advocate for common sense measures that support safe gathering.

Event safety is an important issue beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. New digital safety initiatives like Next Generation 9-1-1 will upgrade 911 technology by allowing people to share data like videos, images, and texts with 911 call centers. This will help facilitate rapid emergency response at events if ever needed.

Join us in supporting digital safety initiatives like Next Generation 9-1-1 deployment that will help enable more secure experiences as we reconnect at live events.

Take action

1. We urge you to email or call your member of Congress and voice your support of Next Generation 9-1-1 technology. Below is a letter you can copy and customize and email to your lawmakers.

Dear (Elected Official),

As a constituent, I urge you to support policies that will foster safe gatherings and more secure events. The COVID-19 pandemic led to countless canceled and postponed festivals, concerts, and other live events. The emotional toll of the pandemic has made congregating with friends and family more important than ever.

Safe gatherings are a way to help reconnect communities as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. As live events resume, Congress should encourage implementing best practices and adhering to recommended health guidelines.

But event safety is an important issue beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. We also urge you to support funding for digital safety initiatives like Next Generation 9-1-1 deployment that could help save lives during crises and improve event safety. This technology will help facilitate rapid emergency response and more secure experiences as we reconnect at live events.

Congressional support for digital safety tools like Next Generation 9-1-1 will help communities re-engage with each other more safely than ever before.

Thank you for your attention to these matters.
Sincerely,

Economic Recovery

Support financial measures that strengthen the live events ecosystem and communities

Background

Event creators have a powerful role in our society: fostering connection, powering local economies, and bringing vibrancy to our culture and our communities. COVID-19 caused significant and unprecedented challenges to the live events industry: it was one of the first to be restricted and the last to be reopened. While we are grateful for financial relief programs that provided support to event organizers in the most difficult of times, live events are not yet back-to-normal.

As the dynamic public health situation around COVID-19 continues to evolve, we will continue to stand with our creator community in support of effective relief programs that recognize and help address the challenges associated with creating safe live experiences.

Take action

1. Share your business’ COVID-19 story with Eventbrite. Did you use financial relief programs during COVID-19? What worked? What didn’t? We would love to hear from you about your experience so we can advocate for policies that continue to support the reopening of live events.

2. Join us to remind Congress and your local elected officials of the impact COVID-19 continues to have on creators across the country. Copy, paste, and customize the letter below and email your members of Congress. Let them know how important events and creator financial relief programs are to you.

Dear (Elected Official),

As a constituent, I urge you to support targeted relief programs that directly assist event organizers and recognize the unique challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has created for the live events community. While resources such as the Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loan program provided small businesses and creators with much-needed relief, the evolving nature of the pandemic continues to impede creators’ live experience mission.

As the economy continues to recover, remember that events are not back-to-normal. Event organizers are incurring higher expenses and using more resources in order to create safe experiences. The live events industry will be one of the first industries impacted if there is a COVID-19 surge. We need your continued support for effective relief programs that address our industry’s unique challenges as we continue to navigate financial uncertainty these next months.

Sincerely,

Resources

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in the United States, Eventbrite has advocated for targeted relief programs that provide direct assistance to the small businesses that make up our creator community and that recognize the unique recovery challenges presented by the live events community. We teamed up with NIVA and other tech companies to advocate for financial relief. We also supported Congress’ efforts to create the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), to develop expanded, accessible unemployment assistance initiatives, and to provide for the first time direct support to the live events community through the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program.

Online Access & Connectivity

Encourage reliable and cost effective online access so that event creators can run their businesses and we can enjoy live experiences

Background

Event organizers rely on high-speed broadband access to run their businesses, find and attract new audiences, and facilitate live events. Event-seekers rely on online access to participate in events – no matter where they live.

Eventbrite supports policies that expand broadband, close the digital divide and support experience makers. Join us in advocating for additional funding for broadband deployment and encourage lawmakers to pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which includes more than $42 billion to connect unserved and underserved areas and a total of $65 billion to improve internet access.

Take action

1. Share the importance of expanding broadband and the importance of having reliable and accessible online access. Below is a letter you can copy, customize and email to your lawmakers.

Dear (Elected Official),

As a constituent and creator of live events, I want to voice my support for policies that will expand broadband connectivity and close the digital divide.

Reliable and accessible broadband allows small businesses like mine to organize, promote, and run events — both in-person and online — which facilitates social connection in our communities. Connectivity also helps live event creators find and attract new audiences and develop relationships with attendees, while allowing event-seekers to learn about and participate in one-of-a-kind live experiences no matter where they live. Expanded access to broadband is truly an investment in our nationwide economic and cultural recovery as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.

I want to thank Congress for passing additional funding for broadband deployment in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Please advocate for these funds to be dispersed to small business owners as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your attention to these matters.
Sincerely,

Equity & Opportunity

Support voting access in order to ensure all voices are represented and economic security for families in times of crisis and transition

Background

Our mission to bring the world together through live experiences includes encouraging our community to make its voices heard on Election Day and to support policies that facilitate the right to vote. As part of our backing for equal voices and opportunities for all, Eventbrite also supports efforts to create a federal paid family and medical leave policy so our creators can care for a new baby, for a sick family member, or for their own health.

Join us by letting Congress know that you support equitable ballot access and paid family and medical leave for all workers.

Take action

1. Tell members of Congress what accessible voting and federal family support programs will mean to your family and community. Below is a letter you can copy, customize and email to your lawmakers.

Voting Rights

Dear (Elected Official),

As a live events creator who understands the benefits of individuals gathering to express themselves peacefully, I support efforts that facilitate the right to vote for all Americans. Unfortunately, recent court decisions and state legislative developments have made it more difficult for Americans to exercise this fundamental right in too many cases.

I support the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, H.R. 4, that recently passed the House of Representatives. This legislation helps to protect the freedom to vote and ensures elections are safe, accessible, and free from discriminatory barriers to voter participation. It would permit the Department of Justice to challenge voting rule changes that disproportionately disadvantage voters of color, among other common-sense provisions. I encourage you to support this proposal to safeguard the right to vote for all Americans.

Sincerely,

***
Federal Family Support Programs

Dear (Elected Official),

As a constituent, I urge you to support the enactment of a federal paid family and medical leave program in upcoming infrastructure debates.

Federal family support programs are essential to live event creators and our employees so that we can care for a new baby, a sick family member, or our own health. Currently, one-third of Americans are without paid leave to care for their families or themselves. The lack of a universal paid leave policy has negatively affected American workers for far too long, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated the issue, particularly for the lowest-income workers.

Please support the passage of a universal paid family and medical leave program to benefit working people, their families, and the economy.

Sincerely,

Resources

Eventbrite has partnered with businesses and organizations to provide tools to our creators and support ongoing legislation that encourages equitable access to voting and economic security for families in times of crisis and transition:

  • During the 2020 election, we partnered with HeadCount and launched Ticket to Vote, a campaign that gave creators tools to register voters at events and information to give to their attendees about voting.
  • In 2021, we joined Business for Voting Rights and more than 200 other companies urging Congress to support the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
  • We also joined the PL+US Campaign for Paid Family and Medical Leave along with more than 190 supporters from across the business community and sent a letter to Congress urging the creation of a national framework for a permanent paid family and medical leave policy.
