re.Mixer Social Connection Event

Social Connection

Build a better understanding of social isolation among young adults and how shared in-person experiences can foster meaningful social connection.

Background

Eventbrite is convening best-in-class academic, nonprofit, and advocacy leaders to support event creators in hosting more socially-connected events, raise awareness and reduce the stigma of social isolation among young people, and elevate social isolation as a public health priority.

Through this multi-year Social Connection Project, which incorporates research, advocacy, media, and events, Eventbrite is committing to helping young people feel less isolated and more socially connected through the power of live experiences. We believe that all young people deserve meaningful connection, and we are uniquely positioned to be a leader and convener on this critical issue.

Take action

1. We urge you to contact your member of Congress and voice your support for elevating social isolation among young adults as a public health priority.

Dear (Elected Official),
As a constituent and creator of live events, I support Eventbrite’s efforts to raise awareness and reduce social isolation stigma among young people through the Social Connection Project.
Social isolation and loneliness, especially among young people, is one of today’s most pervasive mental health crises. In 2022, 80% of 18-25 year-olds reported feeling a lack of companionship and 70% reported feeling left out often or some of the time.
I appreciate that Congress has taken steps to address the mental health crisis, but America’s young people continue to struggle with social isolation and loneliness. This lack of social connection can lead to negative mental and physical health impacts and can carry a health risk comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
I urge you to elevate awareness of this challenge. I also urge you to support federal research funding to develop our understanding of the impact of social isolation, specifically among 18-25 year-olds – as well as the role that in-person gathering can play in fostering meaningful social connection.
Sincerely,

Online Access & Connectivity

Encourage reliable and cost-effective online access so that event creators can run their businesses and we can enjoy live experiences.

Scanning Tickets With Phone

Background

Event organizers rely on high-speed broadband access to run their businesses, find and attract new audiences, and facilitate live events. Event-seekers rely on affordable online access to participate in events – no matter where they live.

Eventbrite supports policies that expand broadband access, close the digital divide and support experience makers. Join us in advocating for widespread broadband deployment and encourage lawmakers to keep working to connect underserved communities throughout the United States.

Take action

1. Share the importance of expanding broadband and the importance of having reliable and accessible online access.

2. Share your story with Eventbrite. We would love to hear from you about why online access and connectivity is important to you.

Economic Vitality

Support small businesses and entrepreneurship to strengthen the live events ecosystem and our communities.

Background

Event creators are often small businesses that have a powerful role in our society: fostering connection, powering local economies, and bringing vibrancy to our culture and our communities. COVID-19 caused significant and unprecedented challenges to the live events industry; it was one of the first to be restricted and the last to be reopened. While we are grateful for financial relief programs that provided support to event organizers in the most difficult of times, our communities are continuing to recover from economic impacts of the pandemic.

As the economic recovery continues, we stand with our creator community in support of effective economic development and entrepreneurship support programs that recognize and offer solutions to the challenges associated with creating safe in-person experiences.

Take action

1. Share your business’ COVID-19 story with Eventbrite. Did you use financial relief programs during COVID-19? What worked? What didn’t? We would love to hear from you about your experience so we can advocate for policies that continue to support the reopening of live events.

2. We urge you to contact your member of Congress about the impact COVID-19 continues to have on creators across the country and let them know how important events and creator financial relief programs are to you.

Resources

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in the United States, Eventbrite has advocated for targeted relief programs that provide direct assistance to the small businesses that make up our creator community and that recognize the unique recovery challenges presented by the live events community. We teamed up with NIVA and other tech companies to advocate for financial relief. We also supported Congress’ efforts to create the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), to develop expanded, accessible unemployment assistance initiatives, and to provide for the first time direct support to the live events community through the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program.

Safe Gatherings

Stand up for policies that empower event organizers and support safe gatherings

Background

We’re committed to event safety. That is why we are empowering creators with resources to make informed event safety decisions and advocate for common sense measures that support safe gathering.

Event safety is an important issue beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. New digital safety initiatives like Next Generation 9-1-1 will upgrade 911 technology by allowing people to share data like videos, images, and texts with 911 call centers. This will help facilitate rapid emergency response at live events if ever needed.

Join us in supporting digital safety initiatives like Next Generation 9-1-1 deployment that will help enable more secure experiences when we connect at live events.

Take action

1. We urge you to contact your member of Congress and voice your support of Next Generation 9-1-1 technology.

Dear (Elected Official),

As a constituent, I urge you to support policies that will foster safe gatherings and more secure live events. After experiencing social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have a deeper appreciation of the importance of congregating with friends and family. To support the development of innovative public safety programs, I ask that you cosponsor the Spectrum Innovation Act, H.R. 7624, which would direct $10 billion of future Federal Communications Commission spectrum auctions to support Next Generation 9-1-1.

I urge you to support funding for digital safety initiatives like Next Generation 9-1-1 deployment that could help save lives during crises and improve event safety. This technology will help facilitate rapid emergency response and more secure experiences as we reconnect at live events.

Congressional support for digital safety tools like Next Generation 9-1-1 will help communities engage with each other more safely than ever before.

Thank you for your attention to these matters. Sincerely,

2. Share your story with Eventbrite. We would love to hear from you about your specific safe gathering needs so that we can help support them.
