New Bohemia Brewing Co (NuBo) is inspired by the vibrant beer culture and styles that founders Dan and Mike encountered living in Central Europe. The Kingdom of Bohemia was the beer capital of Europe five centuries ago, and it has continued to shape beer trends since. Now it's time to create a New Bohemia for a new enlightened age--a place that is at once classical and renegade, grounded in tradition and experience, while guided by a spirit of discovery and whimsy, with an appreciation for beauty and artistic inspiration. 

Let's face it, there are already a lot of craft brewers making excellent beer, and Santa Cruz already has a strong beer scene, with several good breweries now operating. We can't wait to join them, because we know that, together, we are going to put Santa Cruz on the map as one of the most exciting beer cities in California, if not the Western US.

For us, 'New Bohemia' is more than just a name. It's a vision of what our brewery will represent--in terms of a primary beer tradition, in terms of the essential spirit of Santa Cruz, and in terms of matching our experience and respect for tradition with a taste for new and creative ideas.
