CPL’s Innovation Lab allows us to experiment with new ideas in library services and programs.

Maker Lab

Our first innovation experiment is the Maker Lab, CPL’s version of a hackerspace or makerspace, a community-operated workspace where people with common interests, often in technology and science, come together to learn and collaborate. Makerspaces are growing in popularity across the globe and are supported by a vibrant maker culture, a technology-based extension of the DIY (do-it-yourself) movement. Today, makerspaces are found at universities, museums and, increasingly, public libraries.

Created in partnership with the Museum of Science and Industry, the Maker Lab offers an introduction to:

  • 3D software
  • 3D printers
  • laser cutters
  • milling machine
  • vinyl cutter
