NYC Men Teach

The NYC Men Teach initiative aims inspire men of color to become teachers in New York City through engagement and recruitment efforts, and to provide early career support through professional development, mentoring, and networking opportunities. Slightly over 8% of NYC DOE teachers are men of color.  While that is above the national average, NYC Men Teach is committed to increasing the number of men of color in our classrooms, so that our teachers better reflect the diversity of our students.  All students, families, and school communities can benefit from the increase of experiences and perspectives that male teachers of color can bring to the classroom.  By driving more males of color into our public schools, and supporting them in the classroom, we can make a difference in the lives of youth who are not accustomed to seeing men of color represented in the classroom.
