Overview

Curious about what riparian buffers are and how they help water conservation challenges? If yes, then this presentation is for you!

Want to find out what riparian buffers are and how they help address the water conservation challenges we face in our region? If yes, then this presentation is for you!

You will learn why water conservation in the Chesapeake Bay and James River watersheds is critically important, why wooded riparian buffers are beneficial, and how to create and maintain a wooded riparian buffer.

Presenters are Judy Oglethorpe and Mary Voorhees. Judy, an ecologist who has worked internationally for global conservation programs including the World Wildlife Fund, is a Tree Steward and Master Naturalist engaged with invasives control and riparian buffer projects in Central Virginia. Mary, a retired UVA research associate professor in early childhood and special education, is a Master Gardener and Master Naturalist who volunteers with the Rockfish Valley Foundation on restoration of riparian buffers and invasives removal.
