Zambomba Flamenca
Overview
This year Flamenco Works' youth company, Flamenquitas del Barrio, will be presenting their Christmas show, Zambomba Flamenca. A Zambomba Flamenca is a traditional Spanish Christmas celebration that blends the festive spirit of Christmas with flamenco music and dance. It is a communal gathering where people sing "villancicos" (Christmas carols) with a flamenco style, accompanied by instruments like the zambomba (a friction drum), tambourines, and guitars. These events, often held in public squares, courtyards, or local bars, are known for their joyful, participatory atmosphere and feature local food, drink, and dancing. Flamenquitas del Barrio will bring their own New Mexico flair to their Zambomba by incorporating Christmas songs, dances and educational elements.
