YOUNGSTA
https://djyoungsta.com / Soundcloud / Spotify / InstagramYoungsta should need little introduction. A founding figure in dubstep, he’s been a resident at the genre-defining club night FWD>> since its early days and was the first to play some of its most iconic tracks. Decades on, he remains a central force in the genre’s evolution. His weekly show on Rinse FM digs deep for new sounds, consistently spotlighting emerging producers. The original ethos that shaped dubstep still runs through every set he plays. Known for his unmistakable sound, Youngsta favors tracks that are both crushingly heavy and intricately detailed—tight, claustrophobic, yet spacious in all the right places.“The sound is just me,” he says, reluctant to label what he plays. “It’s Youngsta. It’s what I’ve always done. People say it’s not changed much, but you can hear progression and change, definitely, it’s not the same as it was. It’s obviously the same vibe, it’s going to be deep.”In recent years, as the deeper, system-rooted end of dubstep has grown into its own self-sustaining scene, Youngsta has emerged again as a key figure—this time for a new wave of producers. Artists like J:Kenzo, Proxima, Icicle, VIVEK, and Nomine are closely tied to him, forming a new vanguard within an increasingly distinctive and energized movement. To highlight this community, Youngsta launched Contact, a club night aimed at placing these producers within a broader dance music context. In 2012—eleven years after FWD>> began and after collabs with the likes of Seven, Kryptic Minds, and SP:MC—Youngsta released his debut solo 12″ on Tempa, featuring the tracks “Destruction” and “Poseidon.” Since then, he’s released 15 more singles and EPs, including last year’s thumping “Plenty” 12” with Costa Rican duo Mucky Update featuring the MC Logan on the Deep Midi label.
