Yoga for Healthy Thyroid - Boosting Immunity & Metabolism

The thyroid is a small gland in the throat that is part of endocrine system which secretes hormones that affect a person's body weight, metabolism, body temperature, moods, energy levels, anxiety levels, immunity etc. When a person has a problem with their thyroid, it can affect both their physical and mental health. Two of the most common Thyroid conditions are:

-Hyperthyroidism when the thyroid produces an excessive quantity of thyroid hormones.

-Hypothyroidism when thyroid hormone production is too low, often caused by an autoimmune disease.

There are several research summaries available that explore yoga as therapy for thyroid problems. Yoga is proven to balance the mind and body and thus helps reduce overall stress.There are quite a few yoga poses that focuses on stimulating the throat, improve circulation, as well as stretch and strengthen the neck improving thyroid function.

Besides yoga poses, yoga mudras are also beneficial in regulating bodily functions. Mudras are mainly hand gestures mostly used in pranayam or meditation to direct the flow of energy within the body. Different areas of the hands are connected with areas in the body that aids in healing.

In this class we will go over the breathwork, asana and mudra practice that are beneficial in balancing the hormones and improve Thyroid function for overall vitality and weight loss.
