At this virtual mixer, ArtSpan Artist Soad Kader will guide you to create a personal collection of spontaneous collages made with everything you love and conjures the feeling of YES!

Putting together your “YES! Book” is a reflective, playful, and creative process accessible to everyone regardless of artistic experience. This mixer is an opportunity to be present, connect with yourself as well as fellow creatives while finding insightful inspiration.

In an effort to connect with your inner wisdom in an intuitive way, you will collect and cut-out colors, shapes, textures, objects, landscapes, people, and words from magazines that you have on hand or pick up for this very purpose. Choose anything that captures your attention in an immediate, visceral way - engaging your senses of sight, touch, taste, smell, and sound without your analytical brain getting in the way.

What are you drawn to? What makes you feel good? What makes you feel YES!

No filters or editing, just an immediate attraction. With this collection of cut-outs Soad will ask participants to create quick collages within book pages that are pleasing to you in any way. Later, after the collages are done, you may return to them to make meaning or find messages in your constructed images.

This online event is proudly sponsored by ArtSpan’s Community Partner, Blick Art Materials. 30 participants that have registered through Eventbrite by 11:30pm on March 3rd, will receive in the mail 1 Elmer’s Glue Stick and 1 Blick Artists Lined Notebook to use with instruction during the event.

Additional materials participants will need include a pair of scissors, a pen and 3 favorite magazines.

Gather all items together to have on hand, ready to use as instructed during the Zoom event.

About the Presenter: Multi disciplinary artist, Soad Kader’s formal painting education came from studying with many renowned artists at the University of California, Davis, where she earned an Art Studio degree. She calls San Francisco, California her home with an adoration that keeps her inspired to create and share everyday. She grew up with an Egyptian Muslim father and a Basque-Italian-American Catholic mother. Soad says, "Being proud of my multi-mixed heritage identity and experiences and being comfortable navigating the in-between gives me confidence to stand in full color with all my identities and share my unique vantage point and continued hunger for varied perspectives and deeper understanding".
