About this event

Hey Writers,

Join us for our first meeting of the 2025-2026 workshop! This year, our theme is storytelling. During each session, we will explore techniques to enhance our writing and storytelling, helping us shape the architecture of our narratives.

Week 3: Telling Our Story: Using Theme & Symbolism

Explore how theme and symbolism work together to transform personal experiences into quality writing.

📅 Date: Sunday, November 9, 2025

🕐 Time: 1:00 PM (Doors open at 12:45. We have a 15-minute grace period, after which we can’t allow late arrivals into the session.)

📍 Location: 131 Spring Street, 4th Floor, New York, NY

🎟️ RSVP here – Seating is limited, so don’t wait! All writers 21+ are welcome.

📚 Mandatory reading: Self-Portrait as Kendrick Lamar, Laughing to the Bank by Ashanti Anderson (Members have access to all readings for the year. Click here to become a member!)

While reading, think about: What do we show vs. what we actually feel? What are some reasons people wear ‘masks’ in everyday life: emotionally, socially, or culturally? How can a mask be both a form of protection and a barrier? How does turning that idea into a symbol help us explore deeper themes in writing? We will discuss our thoughts during the meeting!

Workshopping will be available at our in-person meetings only. Virtual options are not available at this time.

We hope to see you there <3
