FAQs

Have any testimonials?

Yes. Here are three pretty nice ones. "Thank you for the inspiring workshop yesterday! I've wanted to start doing some writing again, but I felt like I didn't know how to jump back in. And, of course, self-criticism and doubt loomed large. Your workshop motivated me to just get started, start small using the exercises we practiced, and see what happens. You are such a talented instructor, Amy. You created a warm, nurturing, safe, and fun environment for the group that, for me personally, lifted all the anxiety I had about writing. It was so much fun, I didn't want it to end." -M

"I made an investment in my mind and creativity by taking Lynda Barry's Writing The Unthinkable workshop facilitated by Amy Probst and I am so glad that I did! She helped me get out of my own way and I had several new pieces of writing by the end of the workshop. Most of them were sad but I dare say, they were good pieces of writing." -G

"This was hands down the best writing course I've ever taken. I seriously am the king of writers block and I didn't have any problems - it was the freest my pen has ever flowed. At one point I wrote freely for 20 minutes and I didn't want to stop!" -K

How's parking at this place?

Free and plentiful. Big lot adjacent to the Freighthouse.

You serving us lunch?

Nope, but we're in the heart of Depot Town and its excellent restaurants, including Sidetrack, Maiz, Aubree's, Cream & Crumb, Cafe Ollie, Cultivate Coffee, the amazing Ypsilanti Co-Op, and Hyperion Coffee. Or you can just brown-bag it and stay in the Freighthouse during lunch, marveling over the amazing stories that you unthunk in the first half of the workshop.

Does Lynda Barry know you're doing this?

Yes, although it took me ten years to get the guts to follow in her footsteps after she encouraged me to do so. I loved this workshop so much that I took it a billion times, and that's how I got to know Lynda. She said, "Amy, you should teach this. You can do this." And finally, I found out she was right. She's been a very important person in my life, and this workshop is a huge part of that. I love her.
