Come join this summer workshop on writing from personal experience! **LAST DATE TO REGISTER IS SATURDAY, JULY 8.**

This workshop is for you, whether you’re working on personal essays, memoir, and/or opinion pieces. It will be held on Zoom for eight consecutive weeks.

I bring years of experience in writing and publishing my own creative non-fiction works and in immersing myself in the workshop world, first as a participant as I went for my MFA degree, and then as a writing professor for over 20 years at Emerson College, Boston University, and Grub Street. One of my favorite things in the world is facilitating a community of incredible writers, each there to learn about voice, style, and structure, share their work, and support each other with encouragement and thoughtful suggestions.

My workshops also include a unique component called “Beyond the Workshop.” Usually, once a workshop ends, all too often so does the work. It’s hard to go from a structured environment with deadlines to being out there on your own. I’ll give you the tools to keep you writing, based on my book and TEDx Talk, What’s Your Creative Type? and my Substack newsletter, “Page Fright.” We’ll also get real about publishing, not just writing (because don’t you all want to be published?), with lessons on how to target publications, how to write a query letter, etc.

Former writing students of mine have gone on to become New York Times bestselling authors. Their articles have been published in McSweeney’s, The Rumpus, and other sought-after publications, and their books have won prestigious awards and become book club choices.
