Lucy Burdette, author of 15 books in the Key West food critic series and 25 books in total, will talk about what she's learned about longevity in the writing business. She will share tips for keeping a long series fresh such as layered characters, a setting experiencing change and conflict, a character with a stake in the mystery's solution, and how to mine the world you've created for more plot points.


She will also discuss how to survive the ups and downs in the business--defining your goals, handling rejection, avoiding procrastination, finding your tribe.


Speaker Bio

New Jersey born clinical psychologist Lucy Burdette aka Roberta Isleib is the author of the Key West food critic mysteries, including THE MANGO MURDERS, the latest in the series featuring food critic Hayley Snow (Crooked Lane Books).


Both the tenth book in her Key West food critic mystery series, THE KEY LIME CRIME, and the twelfth, A DISH TO DIE FOR, won the Florida Book Award’s bronze medal for popular fiction. A CLUE IN THE CRUMBS, number thirteen in the series, won the Florida Book Award's gold medal in popular fiction. Her books and stories have been short-listed for Agatha, Anthony, and Macavity awards.
