About this event
Let your spirit be nourished, your creativity kindled ...
Together we'll do some guided meditation and some writing and sharing--plus a dose of lovingkindness for good measure (because who couldn't use a little loving up right now?).
I've designed this class to be as nurturing and accessible as possible. Fee is on a sliding scale of $10-50. Come for one or for them all.
First Tuesdays of the month, 6:30-8pm Pacific time.
“There are exceptional moments in life when we encounter certain extraordinary people who guide us on the path toward becoming ourselves in the fullest sense. Marisa did just that—with keen insight, craft and creativity.” –Andrés Tomas Conteris
About Your Guide
Hi! I'm Marisa. I'm the author of the memoir Loyal to the Sky, which won a Nautilus Gold Award for world-changing books (and has a Foreword by the inimitable Rebecca Solnit). My essays, poetry, and fiction have appeared in numerous national publications, including The Sun Magazine, Orion, Salon.com, and Witness. I teach creative writing, meditation, transformation, and inquiry at places ranging from Stanford University to Spirit Rock Meditation Center to Esalen to the California Institute for Integral Studies. I also have the pleasure of working one-on-one with clients as a Creative Coach and a Life Coach.
I earned my MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and have received numerous fellowships in Creative Writing, including a Fulbright grant and an Elizabeth George Foundation grant. My poem “The Vanishing” won the Lois Cranston Memorial Poetry Prize and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
I'm also a dedicated spiritual practitioner. I've practiced Insight Meditation in retreats and daily life since 2002. I've practiced The Work of Byron Katie (inquiry) since 2015. I'm a committed practitioner of Authentic Movement and Somatic Experiencing. And freeform dance (Ecstatic, Biodanza, Contact Improvisation) has been a key form of embodied exploration.
Last but not least... I truly love doing this. I consider it a real privilege to hear what my students and clients share, and watch them bloom as their voices take shape.

"Marisa has a remarkable knack for drawing out long forgotten memories that might otherwise have remained buried and voiceless. In her quiet, unassuming way, I think Marisa may be one of the great teachers of my life.” --Tony Elman
