About this event
Writer’s Roulettes are prompted, low-pressure writing sessions that give you a bit of direction... and then let you run with the rest of the story.
At the top of the hour, we start with a prompt—sometimes a single word, sometimes a phrase. Then, we'll take 20-25 minutes to write whatever comes to mind: a personal essay draft, a fictional scene, a poem, or something entirely unexpected.
After the writing session, we'll have an open invitation to share work (no pressure) with our gathered supportive group of fellow writers.
No pressure. No perfection. Just writing. Whether you're looking for inspiration, practice, or just a creative jolt, Writer’s Roulette is your chance to see where the words take you.
Frequently asked questions
NOPE! Writer’s Roulette is open to writers of all levels. The goal is creativity and exploration, not perfection. If you write, you are a writer! And you're welcome to join us.
Anything goes! You can start writing a personal essay, a fictional scene, a poem, a character sketch—whatever the prompt inspires. There are no restrictions. You can even ignore the prompt if you want. ?
Sharing is always 100% optional. If you prefer to write just for yourself, that’s totally fine.
Each session is one hour long—20-25 minutes of writing, followed by sharing and discussion for the remaining time.

No, but it’s encouraged! Seeing each other helps create a more engaging and supportive environment.
It’s best to join on time so you don’t miss the prompt, but if you arrive late, you’re welcome to jump in quietly and start writing. The prompt will always be in the chat for those who join us after the start of the hour.
Absolutely not. This is a judgment-free zone. Feedback is always supportive. We focus on the positives, craft use, and what we love or what speaks to us rather than giving criticism.
Prompts are randomly selected before each session. They might be a single word, a phrase, or even an unusual question to spark creativity.
At this time, we're not accepting prompt suggestions. But that may change in the future!
If you choose to share, feedback will focus on what’s working well and what’s interesting or intriguing. This is not a critique workshop—it’s about encouragement and creative momentum.
On occasion, and we'll always notify you if we're recording. If someone signs up who can't make the live session, we'll send them a link to the recording so they can have part of the same experience. We'll also invite them to contribute feedback for those who share their work.
Please do! Writing is always more fun with friends. Just have them sign up in advance.
If you purchase a ticket and can't make it live, please message me through the Eventbrite page! I'll make sure you get a recording of the session so you can write on your own.
