Writers' Circle at Studio Kash

Join us in a cozy, candlelit space for an intimate workshop where visual

art meets creative writing. Together, we’ll explore NYC-based paintings as gentle

prompts, write at our own pace, and have the opportunity to share in a

supportive, welcoming environment that encourages curiosity, connection, and

creativity.

You are invited to join our Writers’ Circle at Studio Kash, where each week we explore different facets of creative writing, always in a supportive, collegial atmosphere.

First: Settle in amidst the candles with tea and wine. Then: The instructor offers a

compelling prompt, and for a time, everyone writes. There are no rules about what to

write, or how much: the only rule is to follow the prompt. Of course, whether you choose

to share your writing is up to you. Next: A brief interlude to converse and enjoy

refreshments. Finally: The writing process begins once more.

No pressure, no outside noise (cells on DND, please)--only the quiet thrill of creation.

Whatever your preferred form—poetry, fiction, or non-fiction—this series is designed to

spark ideas and deepen your personal practice. Leave inspired, with fresh writing, and,

who knows, maybe even a new friend.

This week’s theme draws inspiration directly from our studio location, a functional art

gallery in the heart of Northport, NY. For this workshop series, ekphrasis is the practice

of letting artwork serve as inspiration, inviting you to explore the moods, stories, and

hidden emotions within each piece. Our goal is not merely to describe what we see in

the artwork, but engage with it in a creative way—answer a question it can’t speak

aloud, describe what it feels like inside the scene, or imagine what is just outside of the

walls of the frame.

Ekphrasis is the thrill of feeling your pen rush to capture what the artwork can’t say for

itself. It’s a way to hone our observational skills as writers and unlock fresh

ideas—every ekphrasis is an invitation to find your voice, experiment with perspective,

or discover unexpected directions for your work. Simply put, it’s exhilarating: art

becomes a partner, a provocateur, and a doorway into stories you didn’t know you had

inside.
