If you read Joyce Vance's Substack, you'll recognize her signature sign-off: "We're in this together". Legal scholar, one of the famed Sisters in Law podcast hosts, and frequent MSNBC legal analyst, Joyce has offered us context, information, and consideration of legal issues that hit us at lightning speed. She has a singular ability to translate complex legal issues into words that non-lawyers can understand.
In her new book, Giving Up Is Unforgivable, Vance walks us through our current moment and mandates that we act now to save our democracy. She lays out a blueprint of ways that we as individuals can do something meaningful right now to meet the challenges we're facing. The message is powerful: that in numbers, we make change. And giving up is unforgivable.
Professor Justin Levitt, at LMU Loyola Law School, is a national expert on the law of democracy. He has published widely and testified before federal and state legislative and administrative bodies and courts; before academia, he served on several presidential campaigns and at several civil rights nonprofits. Levitt has advised and represented citizens and officials of both major political parties and neither, and those whose partisan preference he does not know.
