Event description

Description

The Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Washington, DC cordially invites you to a conversation with Carnegie Medal winner, Ruta Sepetys.

Lithuanian-American writer Ruta Sepetys is an internationally acclaimed author of historical fiction published in over fifty countries and thirty-six languages. Her books are New York Times bestsellers and are currently in production for film and television. Sepetys is considered a “crossover” author as her books are read by both students and adults worldwide. Her novels are recommended reading on school lists in 25 states in the U.S. and part of educational curriculum in foreign countries. Her latest novel, Salt to the Sea, was recently awarded The Carnegie Medal. Sepetys will speak about the writing process, the role of history and story in fostering global understanding, as well as the importance of preserving your own story. At the conclusion of the event, she will provide a special sneak peek of scenes from the upcoming film, Ashes in the Snow.

“Ruta Sepetys acts as champion of the interstitial people so often ignored—whole populations lost in the cracks of history.”

– The New York Times Book Review
