About this event
Join Write Your Undiscovered Self - a five-week depth work programme led by Dr Rachel Newsome grounded in Jungian psychology - to learn how writing and imagination can be used as tools to access the unconscious, untether creativity and expand your sense of possibility.
Wednesday October 29 - Wednesday November 26
6.30pm - 8.30pm London Time
About This Event
One of the main founders of depth-psychology, Carl Gustav Jung proposes that what our rational minds takes for reality is only a partial view of what he calls ‘the real psychic facts’. Deep beneath our everyday awareness, we all have an undiscovered self who is the creative, animating and healing inner life-force behind our intuition, imagination and dreams.
It is through learning to attune to the embodied wisdom of our undiscovered self that we can experience this deeper level of reality as an expansive cosmological web in which everything and everyone is connected. In this way, we can create the necessary conditions for living more fully, authentically and meaningfully.
Sessions will include:
- An accessible introduction to key Jungian concepts including the collective unconscious, the archetypes & active imagination.
- Short writing exercises that will last approximately between 5 and 15 minutes.
- Small group discussions
- Weekly worksheets
- Recordings of each session
Who Is It For?
- Those on a journey of self discovery who are interested in learning writing techniques to support psycho-spiritual growth and who are comfortable with diving deeper
- Writers & creative practitioners interested in expanding their practice and range
- Therapeutic practitioners and professionals in health, social care, education, the arts & creative industries who would like to learn more about how writing can be a form of healing.
The focus of the programme is on process, rather than outcome, and on what comes up in the writing, rather than craft, skills and technique. This means that you don’t need any previous writing experience to benefit from the course and there will be no pressure to read anything out.
Tickets: £135

Testimonials
Rachel is an incredible teacher. She really knows what she’s talking about so it’s impossible not to be in it. It’s been incredible to re visit myself and discover the creative part of me. Rachel’s teaching provided me with the props and structure that allowed for something fuller and more meaningful to come out of me. I now have a new tool for me to express myself and this has been life changing for me.
I absolutely loved Rachel’s course. The exercises were so revealing and the writing and ideas flowed in unexpected ways. I'm so grateful for this experience! Rachel is such an inspiring teacher on these themes and has put together a unique, nourishing course. It was a fascinating journey full of unexpected turns, and left me with so much to carry forward.
Rachel’s course has been deeply nourishing and has re-awakened my creativity. The learning acted as a catalyst for some much needed shifts and brought about some beautiful practices such as starting a dream diary, drawing and object making and other more personal rituals too. I feel like my relationship with myself is a little easier than it was before I did Rachel’s course. It coincided with me starting somatic experiencing therapy and they complimented each other beautifully. The sense of community felt so lovely too. Thanks so much Rachel, your extremely generous with your knowledge and your presence is so zingy I found your enthusiasm contagious. She is a fantastic teacher and I’m really looking forward to more.
Rachel’s knowledge blows me away and her energy is incredible. Thank you so much for an enlightening few weeks. I can't wait for more.
Rachel’s course was deliciously packed with information - theory, experience, examples - and delivered in a way that didn't feel overwhelming. It was clear Rachel lives and breathes what she teaches and it was magic to see it tumbling out of her in such an insightful and impassioned way. I also loved meeting others on the course and getting a chance to make some really lovely new connections. I could absolutely not recommend Rachel and her courses enough!
I have experienced revelation after revelation during this course. I took some of the material to my therapist, we delved even deeper and guess what, even more revelations! I thought I knew myself pretty well. But I have just discovered and uncovered a new layer and a new way to talk about it. This wouldn’t have happened without Rachel’s brilliant course.
Rachel’s course was a thoroughly interesting, stimulating and, overall, excellent experience. Rachel’s enthusiasm was infectious and I appreciated her flexibility with those with diverse needs.
I learned so much from Rachel’s course - the writing exercises and techniques were enlightening. I was quite amazed at what they brought up from memory and what they enabled me to write about. It led me to write in a new way without fear or self-doubt. It's heightened my confidence, given me a fresh perspective to view my writing and difficult situations (I've since taught some team members at work some of the exercises we did together). I found the course extremely therapeutic and have recommended it to many writers and non-writers since. It's left me wanting to learn more.
I found Rachel’s course really enlightening and empowering. It helped me to take a deep dive into my own psyche which has genuinely helped me become less stuck and process and begin to 'alchemize' difficult emotions. Rachel's deep knowledge is palpable and her enthusiasm infectious! She contextualises the subject really well in terms of our society and cultural conditioning and enriches the material with much symbolism and other research and theories.
I really enjoyed Rachel’s course. I particularly liked the learning about different aspects of Jung's approach and applying it to unconscious parts of myself. I'm very familiar with my critic but I also found a cheerleader in there who really has my back and I hope to continue to get to know her / them better. I also found a part that is holding a lot of grief/sorrow. I know this part but I don't always connect with it and whenever I do, I feel a bit more freedom inside. I loved Rachel’s knowledge, enthusiasm and openness - it felt like a safe space (or maybe brave space).
I had such a great experience on Rachel’s course. The most enjoyable and beneficial aspects, for me, were the writing exercises themselves, and doing them in the context of a group made it feel like we were all on a journey together. Every session, I turned up feeling awkward and unsure; every exercise, I started off thinking that I was somehow doing it wrong. And without fail, some kind of alchemy occurred and I ended each session and each writing exercise feeling excited and humbled and eager to learn more. I really appreciated how they were set up to guide us in as deeply as we wanted to venture, and I feel they have left me with some good practices to keep trying out and building on. I also really appreciated what Rachel shared about her own practice and how it’s developing - it definitely gave encouragement to keep going and to stay open to the process. Thank you so much for creating it and guiding us through it.
I really loved Rachel’s course. It was so well organised and well presented. I loved the group dynamic and I’m finding the topics we discussed very useful. I really got so much out of the writing exercises. Thank you for your lovely gentle guidance and support and thought provocations.
I really enjoyed the positive nature of the writing activities. They guided me to get in touch with positive experiences. I felt inspired to continue with my creative journey.
Rachel provided thoughtful guidance, rich with contextual layers of experience and a sensitivity embedded with personal insight. Her passion and generosity of spirit is infectious as she shares with us her tools of discovery. I was able to unlock a myriad of values from a simple observation in time, navigate through my experiences with a different lens, and shape perspectives in order to connect to others in a meaningful way. What I didn't expect was how much the writing was healing, as part of a journey recovering from a series of traumatic personal experiences. Practicing the lessons I learned on this course has directly impacted the clarity and calibre of my ideas, growing my confidence and self-worth.
