In today’s world a good deal of information sharing and learning occurs through mid-length prose on networked sites such as LinkedIn, Substack and Medium. Successful writing on networked sites requires the integration of personal storytelling, informational and inspirational writing. This course guides participants on how to effectively identify their expertise, a target audience, and the most appropriate platform to share within a local and global context.

Through the 8-week course participants will:

  • Identify the best writing routine for your life
  • Identify the optimal time to post/email writing to capture audience attention
  • Learn how to generate ideas from everyday engagements, events, and news stories
  • Learn how to edit and revise your writing
  • Craft three (3) 700-1000 word writing artifacts (posts, blogs, articles, newsletters)

This course is designed for writers at all levels. Each session will include a guided writing prompt, revision technique, and exploration of networked sites. Please note the course dates below:

About the Instructor

LANETTE JIMERSON, founder and CEO of The Literate Self, has over 20 years of experience helping equity-minded leaders bring forth their ideas through writing. Prior to launching The Literate Self, she served as a professor, researcher, and educator. Within these roles Lanette identified and implemented strategies that support adult learners in leveraging the power of their everyday literacy practices to achieve academic and financial success.

Lanette has facilitated writing workshops to support workforce development for corporate and non-profit organizations such as Cook Biotech, Elev8te, Aspire Public Schools, and San Francisco Unified School District. She has developed curriculum for U.C. Berkeley, The Literacy Design Collaborative, and Hidden Genius Project.

Lanette earned her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.

If you are unable to attend this course, please email programs@milibrary.org or call 415-393-0103 by Friday, September 5, 2025, to receive a full refund less any non-refundable ticketing fees which may be applicable. All fees must be paid at the time of registration. After Friday, September 5, 2025 no refunds will be issued.
