Join us for the Write Time Writing Workshop: Mini Memoirs!

Ready to dive into the world of memoir writing? Whether you're a seasoned writer or just starting out, this workshop is perfect for anyone looking to craft their own mini memoirs. We will use a variety of techniques to write about a snapshot in time including phone photos, memory activation techniques, and timelines. We'll learn more about editing and revising from Guest Speaker, Melinda Ronn. Lesson plan outlines are provided for teachers.

Target Audience:

Anybody who wants to increase their skills in memoir and nonfiction creative writing as a writer or a writing teacher/workshop facilitator

Learning Outcomes:

After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Outline the steps for writing a mini memoir
  • Increase reader interest using “showing” instead of “telling” techniques
  • Dissect mentor texts to improve writing
  • Apply research to timelines to create context
  • Apply revising and editing techniques

Prerequisites:

There are no formal prerequisites.

If you wish to participate in the Go Round of Favorite Sentences, bring a favorite sentence (from anywhere) to read aloud to the group.

If you wish to participate in the Critique Session with the Guest Editor, print out and bring three copies of the first page of your unpublished book/article, unstapled, no name attached, 12 point font.

Course Materials:

Participants will receive a course manual, reference materials, and a lesson plan outline if they wish.

Technical Requirements:

Bring your own phone (with photo files), computer, tablet, and other implements for writing.
