You don’t have to write alone. We all need structure and inspiration to finish longer pieces.

This 6-week, completely async long-form writing course gives you exactly that and more: feedback, support and contact with other writers, all without scheduled classes. Write when it suits you best; connect with a unique, global writing community through chat, shared documents and email; and emerge with a polished, submission-ready draft.

Any creative project has stages: the messy beginning, the middle when things start taking shape, the final polishing at the end. Although the end-result is our own, the journey towards a finished draft is almost never a solo act. We write best when we’re in conversation with other writers, and when we have the structure to give and receive the right kind of feedback at each stage of our process. But not everyone can get away on writing retreats, and not every writer is ready to invest the time and money required to spend two or three months wholly focused on their writing projects. Write & Polish That Long Form Piece is our answer to this problem: a guided, flexible 6-week writing course that gives you the structure and community you need to take your writing to the finish line—all in 3-4 hours per week.

  • Week 1: Daily writing towards your draft using prompts.
  • Week 2: Select themes and create one draft.
  • Week 3: Shape your draft.
  • Week 4: Wait for feedback while doing creative research to get inspired and expand your story.
  • Week 5: Intensive writing in your draft, incorporate changes and your creative research.
  • Week 6: Wrap up your draft and get instructor feedback on the final piece.

Frequently asked questions

Does this course include scheduled meetings?

No, this course is completely online and asynchronous so you can participate whatever your timezone and daily commitments. The course does include daily and weekly interaction and feels very collaborative however, since we are in communication through chat, shared documents and email.

What is the recommended length for my long form piece in this course?

This will depend on the genre, the person, and whether you come into the course with something already drafted or you decide to start fresh on a new piece. In general though, to stay within the 3-4 hours per week time commitment, you should plan to work on a piece that’s 4,500 words or less.

How does the feedback work? I’m worried it will take a lot of time.

Getting feedback from different readers helps us develop as writers, and so does giving feedback. This course will require you to give feedback to different partners, but it will never overshadow your own writing as we’re very careful to set expectations around word count and the time feedback takes

Will the instructor give me feedback?

Yes, the instructor will provide you feedback on your work during the course.
