The Austin African American Book Festival Presents: Write On! Black Writers Workshop

As part of the 2025 Austin African American Book Festival under the theme "Our Stories, Our Voices," we are proud to present Write On!, a dynamic writing workshop designed to empower and inspire Black writers at all stages of the creative process.The afternoon begins with a writing workshop led by acclaimed author and literary icon Marita Golden, followed by a Lunch & Learn panel conversation with publishing experts and literary leaders.

The panel will explore how to write, edit, publish, and promote your work in today’s ever-evolving literary landscape. Featured Panelists Include:


  • Paul Coates, founder of Black Classic Press
  • Patrick Oliver, literary consultant and founder of Say It Loud
  • Alice Faye Duncan, award-winning children’s author and retired librarian
  • Jennifer Baker, editor, publishing consultant, and advocate for inclusive storytelling


Registration fee: $50, which includes lunch, festival swag, and a copy of Marita Golden’s literary memoir, How To Become A Black Writer: Creating and Honoring Black Stories That Matter. Seating is limited, so early registration is highly encouraged.
