Nope! Some participants play guitar, piano, or other instruments, but many just bring their voice, a pen, and paper. The prompts are designed to work for everyone.

I’m brand new to songwriting. Will I feel out of place?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. The Weekly Prompts process is welcoming and playful, and it’s built to spark ideas whether you’re writing your very first lyric or your hundredth song.

I’ve been writing songs for years. Will this be too basic for me?

Accepted Answer

Quite the opposite. Experienced writers often love the way these prompts shake up their habits and unlock new directions. It’s a great way to surprise yourself.

Will I actually finish a song in 75 minutes?

Accepted Answer

You’ll leave with verses and a chorus—material you can shape into a full song. Many participants leave with something they’re proud to share right away.

Is this a performance-based workshop? Do I have to share my song?

Accepted Answer

No. This is a writing session. Everyone will be muted. You'll receive a special invitation to share the recording of your song in our online forum, but no one is required to share.

What should I bring?

Accepted Answer

Bring something to write with (pen and paper or blank Google doc) and a voice recorder (like the one on your smartphone). If you like, bring an instrument—but it’s totally optional.

Do I need to prepare anything ahead of time?

No preparation required. Just show up, and we’ll dive right in. Please be on time because we will start on time!
