Workshop: Scenic Basing and Composition

By Marttio Miniature Art

Overview

Weekend workshop with Erkka Marttio, a Golden Demon, Monte San Savino & World Model Expo masters gold winning miniature artist from Finland.

Learn how to build beautiful and dynamic diorama-style bases for your figures in this two-day workshop with award-winning miniature artist Erkka Marttio.

You will learn about composition, storytelling, sculpting and using diferent materials and tools to realize your vision. Expect to leave with a beautiful base for your own personal project, ready for painting. An ideal project for the course would be a scenic base for a unit or a small diorama made up of 3-5 32 mm figures.

Provided: High-quality MDF plinths from Darth Bases in various sizes (mainly round), a selection of 3D-printed basing bits from Epic Basing, other general basing materials (DAS-clay, cork, foam, roots, different kinds of ground scatter, texture pastes, slate, concrete, tiles, tufts, paper plants, isopropyl alcohol, popsicle sticks, wire, plasticard…) Dremel, some hand tools, sand paper, masking tape, bluetack, heatgun, superglue activator, crappy brushes ready for sacrificing.

Kit list: Hobby lamp + extension cord, dust mask, hobby knife, clippers (bad ones will do, mainly used for breaking stuff so don’t bring your GodHands), tweezers, prepared and assembled figures (preferably unpainted so that you don’t have to be careful with them but we can work with painted ones too), Green stuff, Milliput Standard, any other putties you might prefer to use, sculpting tools of your choice (recommended silicone tip tools), superglue, crappy brushes ready for sacrificing and any very specific bits you might wish to use for your idea (for example parts of a terrain kit). It’s a good idea to bring more stuff than you think you will need, and perhaps collectively there might even be opportunities for trading for bits with other attendees. Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and so on.

Purchased tickets cannot be refunded, but they can be transferred to someone else.
