WORKSHOP: Drawing from the Ashes - Art from Fire Remnants

In this immersive workshop, participants will explore the transformative power of recycling a once negative object into a useful tool for artistic expression. By using burnt sticks and branches as both subjects and tools, we will examine the act of creating from destruction. Participants will make their own drawing sticks from burnt wood, using them to produce expressive charcoal drawings that reflect on themes of memory, resilience, and regeneration

About Burnt into Memory:

In the summer of 2019-2020 communities across Australia experienced some of the worst bushfires in living memory. Known as the Black Summer Bushfires, the impact of these collective ‘fire events’ was catastrophic on individuals, their communities and the entire nation.

Burnt into Memory explores the complex impact of these events on individuals and communities within the context of reflection, healing, resilience and forward momentum.

Featuring works by 14 artists living and working within and beyond the Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains region, Burnt into Memory includes artworks created both in the immediate aftermath of the fires and more recent responses.

Terms and conditions:

• SMILE! Gallery events may be photographed, and images used for promotional purposes on Council's websites, publications, social media or by newspapers.
• If you do not wish your image (or the image of your child) to be published, please notify staff before the event.
• If you are unable to attend, please cancel your tickets as soon as possible. This will enable others to participate in the program.
• Do not attend the event if you are feeling unwell.
• Paid tickets are not transferable.

Cancellation/refund polices paid tickets:

• To receive a full refund (minus an admin fee of session cost), please cancel your ticket or notify the gallery before 48 hours of the scheduled event. If less notice is given, a refund will not be issued.
• Refunds will not be given if participants change their mind, or simply forget to attend the event. For exceptional circumstances, refunds may be issued at the discretion of the Gallery Director.
• A refund can take up to 7 working days to process after the event date (due to bank transfer times). Cash payment refunds can take up to 6 weeks to process.
