Working with Eating Disorders as a Massage Therapist

Eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating are not a choice. They are serious mental illnesses which can have devastating impacts. Eating Disorders affect up to 30 million Americans and 70 million individuals worldwide. Did you know that 1 in 5 women struggle with an eating disorder or disordered eating? Also, middle-aged women are the fastest growing segment of the population being diagnosed with eating disorders. This course provides a clinical definition and diagnostics of this mental illness, along with what warning signs to be aware of. We will also look at benefits and contraindications when working with this special population. Last, we will refresh on scope of practice and boundaries so that you may provide therapeutic massage within your professional scope of practice.
