Humor: it’s known as a comic expression, a mental state, and back in the day the term was even used as a way to determine your physical and mental constitution based on your bodily fluids. It’s the sibling of tragedy and a powerful verb (to humor) that allows us to compassionately interact with absurd and unreasonable situations and personalities. It’s also been known as a tool for passive-aggressive snarkiness, a deflection of truth through sarcasm, and in its darkest shade, as an act of cutting and insulting cruelty. However, within all of the wit, humor can also serve as a vulnerable revealing and powerful relational tool, especially in creative practice. Our favorite part of humor is that it can unapologetically be all of these things or none of them. Join us for a fun(ny?) evening exploring the hahas, giggles, and beyond as we explore this concept in a “show up as you are and you don’t need to try to be funny just have fun!” way.

Austin Emerging Arts Leaders' [Working Title] series is a monthly workshop built to help you explore aspects of your creative practice while holding space for your artistic work, side hustles, or that thing you keep dreaming about but can’t quite pin down (or cross off your list). Inspired by the likes of Madeleine Dore’s Side Project Sessions, each monthly workshop centers around a topic from a dedicated facilitator in the field, bringing together artists, arts administrators, and creatives through a series of questions to be answered together. Using these conversations as a launch point, each incorporates some time and space to actively experience your practice or prioritize your personal goals in the midst of a supportive and intentional community. While designed for and with the Austin creative community in mind, this series is open to anyone, anywhere, who feels they may benefit. These events are currently 100% virtual, and will evolve and adapt naturally over time as our circumstances change.
