Learn how to carve through an understanding of wood, tool techniques, sharpening and honing, and more.

After learning the basic movements, explore Scandinavian carving styles with a range of projects. The styles vary from karveskurd (chip carving) and flatskurd (low relief) to elaborate acanthus (leaf groupings).

The class meets Sundays at the Swedish Club in Seattle. This is an ongoing class series so you can continue your practice at your leisure. We tailor instruction to each individual, so you can come in and carve at your own pace.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to bring anything?

Just comfortable shoes and a layer to keep warm on cool days! Wood, tools, and designs are provided.

What is the style of instruction?

We tailor teaching to each student with a mix of demonstration and hands-on instruction. After a brief introduction to methods and tools, the student starts handling chisels with close oversight for safety.

Where is the class?

Most classes are held in the shop on the basement level of the Swedish Club. Special classes are held on the ground floor (Dexter Avenue). We place sandwich board signs to indicate where to enter.
