Event Summary

Join us for an immersive evening where sound, movement, and visual art converge.

Guitarist and composer Joseph Ehrenpreis—a rising voice in contemporary classical music—performs on the rare 8-string Brahms Guitar, accompanied by live calligraphy painting by Yoosho Nam and dance by Miyoung Margolis. This intimate concert at Gallery B612 bridges centuries of creativity, blending early lute songs, contemporary minimalism, and new works inspired by the gallery’s artworks.

This event is presented in partnership with Ojak Bridge Art and Dance Festival, for which Joseph Eherepries is the official 2025 composer.

Event Details

Experience the lush soundscape of the Brahms Guitar, a rare instrument invented in 1994 that expands the guitar’s harmonic and expressive range. Through this performance, Joseph Ehrenpreis explores how music can act as a vessel for cross-temporal dialogue—pairing John Dowland’s 17th-century lamentations with 21st-century minimalist reflections, and unveiling two new compositions inspired by works exhibited in the gallery.

Selections include:

  • Excerpts from Joseph’s forthcoming record Aloe, echoing the timeless grace of Dowland’s lute songs
  • Pieces from his EP Saman, by Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds, evoking meditative stillness
  • New works written directly in response to visual art within the exhibition

Listeners will hear how the Brahms guitar, with its range and richness, can act as a vessel for cross-temporal dialogue: Dowland’s 17th-century lamentations beside 21st-century meditations, and new compositions reflecting the living energy of Seattle’s Gallery B612.

As the music unfolds, Yoosho Nam will create a live brush-and-ink calligraphy painting, while Miyoung Margolis brings movement inspired by the score—transforming the performance into a living collaboration across sound, gesture, and image.
