We're excited to grow the New York Women in Tech community by hosting all women's events, with a female instructor and female TAs. Light refreshments will be provided! These workshops makes learning to code totally beer-able and is designed specifically with beginners in mind.

We recommend coming to both workshops, as they cover different topics. Although you will get the most by attending them both, they are stand-alone workshops and you will still learn a ton! Codesmith also teaches these workshops each week on Wednesdays, so there are plenty of alternatives.

These workshops are part of our Learn to Code 2020 Challenge! If you attend 3 introductory workshops between now and February 6th, you will automatically be awarded $300 of our part-time, remote prep programs! See more details.

These workshops will be a combination of live interactive lecture and pair programming through challenges! You will go under-the-hood of JavaScript, so you can confidently tackle new problems and work through blocks.

January 14th - Intro to JS Variables, Control Flow & Looping

• The web, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Variables (const/let)
• Objects and arrays
• For loops and conditional logic (if/else)

January 21st - Intro to JS Functions & Objects

• What happens when our code runs in the browser
• A closer look at objects
• Objects and arrays
• Reusing our logic (declaring/invoking functions)

Experience Level: All experience levels welcome. We recommend getting started on our free JavaScript learning platform CSX (https://csx.codesmith.io/) and working on the Precourse unit before the workshop.

Details: We will be providing light refreshments for attendees, however due to NY Liquor Laws, attendees must be at least 21 years old to drink alcohol. Under 21, you're still able to attend, but will not be permitted to consume alcohol.
